Whitby’s beaches are accessible from the West Cliff, paths, or at either side of the pier. Particularly on the East side you need to give attention to the tide times which are available at the swing bridge, as its easy to get cut off. This beach, which contains rock pools is also a source of fossils – ammonites and bellemites. The other beach below Whitby’s West Cliff is far safer and has a fantastic stretch of sand cleaned daily by the tide. Great for those early morning and evening walks. When the tide is right it is possible to walk all the way to Sands End. This beach is also served by a cafe and toilets and had life guards on duty.
