Artwaves Festival Online Event @ Bridlington Spa, | England | United Kingdom

It is with a heavy heart that we have made the decision to go digital for our 2021 event. As a festival we have worked tirelessly with our artists and Bridlington Spa to ensure a safe and secure in person event for this year however, the recent government announcement has meant that this is no longer viable for our timescales.

We can reveal that an online programme of creativity and activities are underway and will be unveiled very soon with an additional ‘ArtWaves spin off’ set to be staged in the summer alongside the independent galleries of Bridlington.

This is not the way we wanted to deliver the event but we’re hopeful that our artists can inspire you to get creative still and explore the offerings.

Bookable online workshops will be staged throughout the week 1st – 7th

Adventures of the Yorkshire Shepherdess: Matinee Show
Oct 31 @ 2:00 pm
Adventures of the Yorkshire Shepherdess: Matinee Show @ Scarborough Spa | England | United Kingdom

The Spa Theatre | Scarborough Spa

2:00pm and 7:30pm
We are delighted to announce Amanda Owen has added an extra matinee show (2pm).

In this frank, funny and informative new show, Yorkshire Shepherdess Amanda Owen shares heart-warming tales and honest anecdotes from her remarkable farming, family life in North Yorkshire.

It’s a life that has almost gone in today’s modern world, one ruled by animals and the four seasons.

We’ll hear how Amanda grew up in Huddersfield, but was inspired by James Herriot’s books to leave her town life behind and head to the countryside.

After working as a freelance dairy milker and alpaca shearer, she eventually settled down as a shepherdess at Ravenseat, one of the highest and most remote places in England, where she’s raised a flock of 1000 sheep and a family of 9 children with husband Clive.

Accompanied by some of Amanda’s wonderful photography, we’ll experience the highs and lows of the farming year, which in 2018 included the extremes of the Beast from the East and one of the hottest summers on record.

Ravenseat is a tenant farm and may not stay in the family, so when Amanda saw a nearby farmhouse up for sale, she knew it was her chance to create roots for the next generation. The old house needed a lot of renovation and money was tight, but with her usual resourcefulness Amanda set about the work herself, with some help from the family, a visiting plumber and a travelling monk. It’s fair to say things did not go according to plan.

We’ll hear how Amanda juggles life as a shepherdess, home renovator and mother to nine children, with life as a best-selling author and being taken to the nation’s hearts with the Channel 5 hit series ‘Our Yorkshire Farm’.

Funny, charming and filled with unforgettable characters, ‘Adventures of the Yorkshire Shepherdess’ will delight anyone who has dreamt of a new life in the country.www.yorkshireshepherdess.com

Hidden Horizons Dalby Stargazing
Jan 13 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Hidden Horizons Dalby Stargazing @ Dalby Forest Visitors Centre | England | United Kingdom

Enjoy a guided tour of the night sky, focusing on objects in our solar system (the moon and other planets) as well as stars that reside far away from Earth within our Milky Way galaxy. Use our telescopes and binoculars to view a range of constellations and the objects that reside within them, including deep sky objects such as nebulae, star clusters and galaxies.

Dalby Forest is within the North York Moors National Park, which in 2020, was designated an International Dark Sky Reserve by the International Dark-Sky Association, one of only 18 in the world.

Wrap up warm as it can get very cold on a night we will have lots of hot drinks and biscuits to help keep you warm If you have your own equipment please feel free to bring it, even a pair of binoculars and a blanket to lie on can be great.

We will have our indoor planetarium on standby in case the weather does not allow us to see any stars outside. Using this we can take you on a virtual tour of the night sky and even on a journey through our entire universe. This means we will only cancel an event if Dalby is inaccessible due to weather conditions.

This event takes place at our Dalby Explorer Hub, located in the Courtyard at the opposite end of the carpark to the main visitor centre. If you park at the main visitor centre carpark and then follow signs for the Dalby Bike Hub/Courtyard you will find us (please note mobile phone coverage is very poor in Dalby Forest). If you don’t have a Dalby Forest pass to cover your parking charge then we will give you a code on the night to use before you exit to give you free parking.
