Whitby Autumn Angling Festival

September 2, 2017 – September 17, 2017 all-day
Whitby Harbour

Whitby has long been famous with sea anglers for cod fishing. Our coast line is blessed with wonderful, hard fishing grounds; which geologically run close to, and around, the North Yorkshire coast, coupled with many First and Second World War wrecks that lay close to shore. Since 1982, Whitby holds the British record rod and line caught cod of 58lb 6oz caught from one of our Association boats. For over thirty years, Whitby Charter Skippers Association has been promoting sustainable cod fishing. With its twenty members, Whitby offers anglers of every age and ability the chance to go out to sea and catch fish for the table, or just for the sport and thrill of being out at sea

With boats specialising in short, three hour summer mackerel trips providing great fun for all the family, through to the fast, ten hour off shore charters aimed at the more serious anglers; the Association caters for everyone with an interest in Whitby boat fishing.

Most skippers can provide tackle and advice. All our members and their vessels comply with the strict Maritime and Coastal Agency (MCA) regulations and codes of practices. The Association takes the same pride in its safety record as its fish record with all boats being fully insured and carrying all the necessary safety equipment.

Alongside the regular daily trips, the Association run three angling festivals every year in Spring, Summer and Autumn. There are cash prizes for the heaviest fish on each of the festivals, plus many daily prizes. The grand Summer Festival boasts a huge £5000 first place prize. With our kind sponsors, the Association have continued successfully to make our festivals amongst the best in the country

All skippers take individual bookings as well as full boat charters, and although the boats all run independently in business, all the skippers have the same passion for Whitby and it’s boat fishing.
